6th Borough Quartet: Clare Semes and Caeli Smith, Violins; Maria Semes, Viola; and Mitch Lyon, Cello || Performance of Samuel Barber, Adagio for Strings, Op. 11 || All Soul's Church, Manhattan. April 16th, 2011
@HDOptimus I have to disagree. This is a video, so it's hard to tell exactly what dynamic they play at. They have a great group sound and each person uses the right about of core. Honestly, make sure you know how things work before you make such a comment.
This is such a beautiful piece by Barber. However, you guys killed it. In a bad way. There was no dynamics at all. You guys was around a FF throughout the whole piece except the ending phrase. You guys have a fantastic sound now don't get me wrong. But if you applied the dynamics it would have been even better. At the climax of the piece where you guys jumped up to the high notes, someone was a little flat. Also you guys was a little too fast on most of the phrases. Slow it down some. Overall B+

This piece was written originally as a movement for a quartet but Barber adapted it to string orchestra very soon after.

This is my favorite piece of all time and I did not think it would work with such a small ensemble, but I was wrong. This is heavenly!!
