Thompson put out the video to do damage control for his stupidity during his so-called Presidential campaign and afterwards. He was talking up the economy until the day it crashed.

Fred Thompson is the same guy who served as minority counsel during the Senate Watergate Committee hearings and he's the same guy who asked his boss, Attorney General John Mitchell (the only Attorney General in US history ever sent to prison), pertinent questions regarding his involvement in the Watergate scandal.
