A Japanese Nagasaki atomic bomb survivor, Sue, and her American former-Navy husband, Lonnie, continue to struggle with the health consequences of what happened 62 years ago. Shown in KPBS (San Diego PBS affiliate) on August 9th, 2006.
@elPacaManca It was fucking sad but dont disgrace the United States by comparing it to the Holocaust - the deliberate torture of human beings. Please look at Japan at the time these bombs were dropped. They were the most vile enemy to the human race the world has ever seen.
My grandmother was in Japan when this happened. She was ten. She used to wake up to "bomb alerts" in the morning and would say "I don't care if I die, just let me sleep!" Funny. When the bombs actually dropped she was 40 miles away and wasn't effected too bad, but radiation did reach her. She is 83 years old and healthy. Love her to death (:
Love this video. Need to see and hear more from the survivors...for some reason I'm a little obsessed with it. But then, I look at it sort of like the holocaust: we have to force ourselves to look and remember.
thanks for the post. I had an opportunity to meet a lot of atomic bomb survivors when I Was visiting Nagasaki. Its quite amazing what they have endured their whole lives since Truman's decision.
