This group of uncommon creatures, porcupines, possums, a squirrel, a skunk, has formed a family with Verne, a tortoise (voice of Garry Shandling), because the head. They uncover that a tall hedge has cut their forest in fifty percent and their nut and berry trees are gone. Exactly where are they heading to obtain their food for subsequent wintertime? Then RJ, an opportunistic raccoon (voice of Bruce Willis), enters the image. RJ explains towards the group that there is really a new world known as suburbia on the other side of the hedge where people live. RJ says, "that humans reside to eat, rather than consume to live". Humans throw away much more meals then they'd ever need and place the food in garbage cans. RJ convinces them to go over the hedge to collect food for the winter.
