@greenbowshrimper Now you're just lying. Many Northern states abolished slavery decades before any industrialization, when they were agrarian or even undeveloped territories. If course there was racism in the North, like there was anti-Semitism in Allied nations during WWII. does that justify Hitler and the Holocaust? Or is it irrelevant because the Allies didn't start the war and were a hell of a lot better than the alternative?

@boondocksaints91 Don't need a textbook. All anyone needs to do is read the South's own Cornerstone Speech and Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, and South Carolina declarations of secession. The racist South loudly and proudly announced that the war was about slavery. You should really read them before you post.

I mean a real one, not some middle school text book that says the Civil War was about slavery and slavery alone and that every soldier who fought for the CSA did so out of hatred for blacks. Learn your facts.

@RonPaulHatesBlacks the northern states abolished slavery because they had no need for it, as they were a manufacturing society not an agrarian one. If the north was so peaceful towards blacks why would they beat abolitionists like fredrick douglas. Also, did you know that one of the biggest chapters (if not the biggest) of the KKK was in indiana? Pretty sure thats a northern state. And of course i don't support slavery, I'm just stating that the south was not necessarily

@greenbowshrimper Of course the confederacy was more racist. Every Northern state peacefully and voluntarily abolished slavery, most years before the war. Every Southern state unconstitutionally seceded and started a war to try to preserve their "cornerstone" of slavery until the end of time, then imposed another century of segregation (until Northern guns ended that, too). The South refused to allow blacks to even enlist as soldiers until just before the war ended.

It should also be noted that less than 80% of southerners had slaves and that the many freed blacks in the south owned slaves

No black confederate soldier was ever captured, killed, or wounded in the Civil War, and no letter from any Civil War soldiers ever mentions large numbers of free black confederate troops. I'm sorry you fell for the propagated by the pathetic SCV and other cowards, but it's not too late for you to read the facts and accept the truth. The confederacy was racist.
