Learn how to export beautiful flash flipbooks directly from inDesign. The tutorial includes special techniques for adding paper texture, managing graphics, adding covers and also includes my own book scaling feature ( free to download at http://tinyurl.com/4hco7gc ) which you can modify in flash or configure externally with any text editor.

  • Package up the exported Indesign SWF and HTML files in a zip file or if you have Flash, make a Flash Projector file or an AIR application. Then distribute.

  • Hey mate maybe you can help me, im trying to find a way i can make a flip book for offline use. I want people to be able to download it for my website and use it as a flip book offline. any ideas?

Can i do this with inDesign?

    cheers

  • @yelmorbdahc Package the bookscaler, your book and all related files as an Adobe AIR application and you can run it anywhere.

  • Hi you video is really helpful, although I got stuck after I have saved all in Indesign, it did not show on the browser straight after. What would be the next steps as to uploading this on to my website?

    Thanks

  • @SwissAmandaFull There's a checkbox to "show in browser" (something like that; I'm not looking at it) in the export dialog. If you do that, the flipbook swf will be embedded in an HTML page. Even better is to use my files and modify the XML document to point to your exported flipbook. All the options can be set in that simple file and there's a very thorough (flipbook) manual for how to use it. See onehourselfpub-dot-com/flipbooks. To upload, find an FTP tutorial. Cheers.

  • hi there please can you tell me how I can have the first page on its own rather than attached to the back cover in a landscape book rather than portrait. Its for an A3 portfolio Thanks.

  • @vexedgeneration The only way I know to have a single page rather than a spread is to use a solid color page that matches the background of the HTML that loads the flash. You'll also want to go into the flash file and turn off the dropShadow under the UILoader component that loads your book. To rotate the book, you'll need to edit the actionscript code in bookscaler.fla and enter something like bookScaler.rotation = 90; at the end. Good luck.

  • When I finish my video the outside framing/background is white, and I was just wondering how yours is that dark gray?

  • Hi,

First all I'd like to say thanks for this tutorial, very good. I have a doubt yet, Do you know if this flipbook can run on android? Because I just started a project of a virtual catalog for cellphones and tablets with android. Do you know if it works?

  • You could always try watching the tutorial!
