Lisa Ramsland ('03) has made the most of her trials. She's gone through some hard times, but rather than feeling sorry for herself or mad at God, she's used her experiences to minister to others in the midst of her brokenness.
After being bedridden and ill for her entire junior year of high school, Lisa wasn't sure she'd even be able to go to college. But she made it to Biola, and is now in Biola's Talbot School of Theology, pursuing an M.A. in Christian leadership and ministry. Lisa's senior year at Biola was also a difficult time for her - she was engaged to be married, but called it off two months before graduating. But five years later, Lisa is happily married and encouraging others that God can work through and redeem even our darkest moments.
After graduating from Biola, Lisa took a job as director of small groups for a large church in San Diego, where she wrote small group curriculum. She has shared her story in a chapter in the book A New Kind of Normal by Carol Kent, and also wrote a devotional in the book One Year Life Verse Devotional about her favorite Bible verse, Romans 8:18. She speaks frequently at womens groups and retreats, where she shares the hopeful message that "we can share in God's glory in the midst of our sufferings."
In a world where there is so much to get us down, Lisa Ramsland is doing what she can to help us see the upside.
