This song is essentially about the possible bleak future which faces humankind due to global warming. The lyrics were written by Neil Macdonald in February this year and were inspired by the extreme weather conditions prevailing at the time in his native Scotland and in my country Australia. Whilst Scotland was experiencing the heaviest snowfalls for years, the southern parts of Australia were being scorched by record high temperatures. On 7 February 2009, in the state of Victoria, temperatures soared to 46.4 C and combined with high winds resulted in the worst natural disaster in Australian history. The bushfires which raged that day destroyed many homes, thousands of acres of forest and bushland and, even worse, resulted in the loss of close on 200 lives. It has been argued that the global warming process will not only result in higher summer temperatures, but paradoxically during the process some parts of the world will actually experience much lower winter temperatures than usual.
I sang all the vocals and played all the instruments.
Quotation from "The Pale Blue Dot" by Dr Carl Sagan.
"Dead Planet" artwork by Christiaan van der Riet.
By the way, since 14 May 2009 this song has been getting airplay on a local radio station on the Isle of Skye in the north west of Scotland!
Fire & Ice
Mother Earth is burning, and its cold as Hell
Panic is rising, tears start to well.
Who do we cry for? Is it for us?
Things are so bad, but they're gonna get worse.
Chorus
Fire and ice, smoke and snow,
Nowhere to hide, no place to go
Fire and ice, smoke and snow,
No place to hide, nowhere to go
Crocodile tears are what leaders shed
Cold in the heart, but hot in the head.
The Earth is black-scorched, frozen as rock
We're nearing the end, as we run down the clock.
Chorus
Fire and ice, smoke and snow,
Nowhere to hide, no place to go
Fire and ice, smoke and snow,
No place to hide, nowhere to go
As fire and ice still scorch the ground
I wonder how long Man will be around?
Smoke and snow cover the Earth
Before its too late, we MUST know its worth.
Chorus
Fire and ice, smoke and snow,
Nowhere to hide, no place to go
Fire and ice, smoke and snow,
No place to hide, nowhere to go

Ferdy, you are so inspiring! Another great song, although the subject is dark, it is a great song with terrific rhythm and I love the melody. The lyrics are haunting in a good sense. You should have starred at the Bushfire concert we organized in March. How about playing for the kids at a lunchtime gig, next year, maybe supporting 'Get Staffed' ?????

Thank you Carolanne! The lyrics of course were written by my YouTube buddy in Scotland. I'd like to think the music has somewhat of a haunting quality about it as well. That's what I was aiming for. Hey, I thought you'd never ask! I would love to perform at school, even though I've already sung quite a few impromptu songs in class already. Ask the kids lol. Check me out performing live on my latest video. Hope you don't change your mind.
Cheers

Thank you for your comment on my video... and the stars! Yes it would be nice if it could get more exposure. It carries a very important message. By the way, the audio track is getting airplay on a radio station in the north of Scotland.
Sorry, I took so long to reply. I have been a bit busy this week.
