Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has agreed to raise the price of power it purchases from Mumias Sugar Company, the sugar-mills Managing director Evans Kidero has said. Kidero says having satisfactorily met tests set by the power utility, all is set for Mumias to sell every Kilowatt hour at 6 shillings and 20 cents up from 4 shillings and 50 cents per Kilowatt Hour. In the recently announced results, Mumias Sugar made 118 million shillings from its co-generation activities. In total, Mumias profits for the half-year went up to 1.5 billion shillings from 231 million shillings last year.

  • There is no problem..even is they charge more...this is money circulating within the Kenyan Economy...Diesel is bad because it is taking our wealth away....I hate the 300MW wind project...it is owned by some Foreigners and will just be a drain for our resources...Concentrate on making core industries locally owned to prevent loss of our wealth (making us poorer)

  • Africans are not sophisticated...they can not create anything...

  • Why US cents? why not Kenyan cents? why are so much into western things.

  • KPLC has no problem paying MSC more...they will just bill the difference to the power consumers! Kitchen Bizness Mgt ideas!
