By the middle of the 19th century, the benefits brought by the host of advances of the industrial age were gradually beginning to reach America, which soon developed a spectacular achievement of its own - the Transcontinental Railway, reaching right across the continent. They battled against hostile terrain, hostile inhabitants, civil war and the Wild West. With two teams, one building from the east and the other from California in the west, they battled against hostile terrain, hostile inhabitants, civil war and the Wild West. Yet in 1869, the two teams' tracks were joined, shrinking the whole American continent, as the journey from New York to San Francisco was reduced from months to days.

  • @pumkinvine I've just read Steven Ambrose's account of the building of the Transcontinental Railroad and this documentry runs pretty close to the truth. Only fault is it's a bit lacking in detail, but hey, a one hour documentry cannot compete with a work hundreds of pages long written by a historian using academic rigor, subject to peer review and full referenced.

  • Wow! That video is so kazomapaloop! Very awesome video, thanks for sharing with us man.

  • @Roncace Nahh, the worlds always been like that. If its not one thing its another. Frankly Im glad we have a transcontinental railroad, but im pretty sure we could have had that and indians get along ya know?

  • To them it was their land and we were invaders, and to us they were obstacles that needed to be eliminated. Why Couldnt we just come to a comprimise and share the land?
