@MooseOfReason This type of decision is irresponsible and just one of the many things teachers would not have done to these students but have no say in the matter. Were just their to be told that we didnt teach them well enough. Point is, it's not one thing, it's a compilation of decisions and ideas that need to be addressed.

@MooseOfReason Now that these students are in their 5th grade year the district decided to change the science text series. So now when they take their Standardized 5th grade science test, they will be tested on material they are unfamiliar with. I know your saying, "well science is science" right? No, each author (company) focuses on different standards and finds different things worth testing.

@MooseOfReason As the years have gone on the people that are directly involved with the students, the curriculum, and the parents have lost more and more decision making power. As a result (in some situations) you see that scores are dropping. I'll give you an example, students at my school have been learning from one series of science textbook. They did 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade science with this series.

@MooseOfReason you should do research on the destruction of the new orleans school system thanks to charter schools. the voucher program is helpful to a degree and it can have benefits for some families however the restrictions on receiving vouchers can be hard for some families to receive and the excess fees are then not covered by vouchers. So it leaves poor families who need the benefit of education without the true means to gain it.

Jon is currently doing a 6 day USO tour in Afghanistan (and 2 more countries later), that's why he couldn't be there.
