If the Original Budweiser (Budvar or Czechvar) is the real King of all beers then Pilsner Urquell (Original Pilsner) has got to be the Emperor of all beers! From the town Plzen in Bohemia which is now the heart of Czech Republic, this beer style is actually relatively new developed in the mid 19th Century. The beer was so good that people started to call the style pilsner and go about to duplicate it. This healthy deep straw, bronze colour beer when nosed has a profound characteristic nose of flowery but bitter Saaz hop intermixed with honey, faint citrus, baked nutty biscuits and grain from light roasted barley - very complex! The mouth feel was full and creamy yet clean with all the above. Although this is not as feminine and fragrant as the Budvar, this beer is more assertive and bigger in everyway (except alcohol level) especially with the noticeable higher level of hop. The finish was long but soft. My friends, life is too short to drink bad beers...please abandon your 6 packs of poor and not so 'Cool-s Light' or anything 'But-wise-r' which are tasteless chilled watery pee-pee with massive adjuncts and choose the finer things in life...(Rating 93-95+ points by Michael Lam of the Beverage Review)

  • go to see that you're not beer drinkers, because if you were, you'd know that the way they drink beer, ruining its original flavor ... Beer has a tongue slip directly into your throat that you touch only a few taste buds, if you like it to in your mouth, you never know the real taste ... Otherwise, I am Czech and I must say that Pilsen has ruined a lot lately, it's only a controversial brand and that's all. I prefer mini-brewers such as HOLBA, Svijany and so on ...

  • @calmes520 I am almost 50 years old and I have been drinking beer since under age at around 13-14 years old! I am so sorry to learn that I am not a beer drinker and do not know how to appreciate beer. Well, it's better late to know than never. Darn...I lack the skills of tasting even after all the beer judging work and years of tasting...thanks for letting me know.

  • Great review. I agree with you. I rank Czech beers at the top of my list, and Pilsner Urquell is my favorite of all time.

  • @repka17 Thanks! Love pilsner style beer but bottom fermenting style beers seem to get looked down by most beer geeks! Fresh, draft version of pilsnera send me to heaven!

  • You must go to the Prague and taste that in some pub.... Draught pilsner is so much better...

  • @Marklar2010 110% agree with you. Had it many years ago and it was the best thing!

  • my favorite beer is Master gold from Pilsner, did you ever drank?

  • @michaelyblam it realy depends where you get it...

  • You know, I was born in Czech Republic and I have to tell you something: I've tasted and drunk many, many beers by travelling across Europe. But I've never... Never EVER tasted so delicious beer as Pilsner Urquell is. This czech-made product is one of things, that I'm very proud of due to my country. Czech beers generally are very tasty, but this one is delicious as hell. In my opinion, this is the best beer in the world. I wonder if somebody shows me better.

  • Pilsner Urquell is one of my favs...probably much better in Prague

  • In Czech republic's pubs and restaurants, beer is cheaper than bottled water. Enjoy ! :)

  • @hugejoint you know your right i have always said weed complements beer better then tobacco, i love a bar full of marijuana smoke and cold beer in a snifter

  • I love czech beer!! But in our country is so expensive... :(

  • @repka17 Have you ever tried the "Gambrinus Excelent"? I live in the south of Germany and travel to Czech three to four times a year just to buy this marvelous beer ^^

  • @Yperparaperan there are even better Czech beers ;-)

  • Greetings from Prague!!! You are right, this is one of the best beers in the world. I tasted many and so much of abroad beers taste like they are week piss or so. Plzeň have in my opinion very strong hops taste and smell. Its heavy and i honestly can take only few of them, 6-8 and then im loosing taste for another one. I just have to say that taste of Plzeň and taste of good skunk/weed goes great together :-)))
