No, I'm an unknown, haha. Just a guy in Connecticut who likes good music. I first heard it on 120 Minutes. I assumed that the band would take off. Some horrible bands make it big and some good ones don't. Who knows.

What an awesome find. Was looking up stuff about my old friend Don Brody and came across this video (we worked at the same record company in the 80s, Greenworld Records). I haven't seen this in over 20 years. Don was such a great guy, was an honor to know him.

In actual truth this did NOT make it on MTV by way of the Basement Tapes- It was a cold submission- addressed to the Pres of MTV networks- I know, I hand carried it into MTV. From there it made "medium rotation" -MTV was playing videos on something closer to a radio format at the time. I'm the director of the video and knew Don since I was 12. There is not a week that goes by that I would have appreciated Don's take on something or other. He really was a special guy.

This seems rather cool... It definitely reflects 1986.

I remember Don well when he and Ann Walsh were The Marys and I worked at Blackwater Books. He used to wheel his baby daughter past the book store every morning and when the weather was fine we would sit out under the awning and watch the world go by together.
He was such a rare talent and a lovely man. He adored his child and was more proud of her than all of the songs he wrote.
I still play my Marys tape. It reminds me of the Hoboken I loved.

I managed to find "NY Beat" on vinyl years ago a compilation that featured this song. Listened to it, Loved it and quickly bought the EP on ebay and love that as well. Just wish there was more to find. My condolences to anyone who knew them.

If you ever do a CD of the album, sign me up for a copy.
Don was a very dear friend of mine from college and I caught COL whenever they played in Kent.

Ah, Don...
Miss you dude.
Paul, thanks for the clarification (I posted the same a couple years ago) and the memory detail. I didn't know you actually took the video over to them. For an unknown band to get on by cold submission is something to be really proud of--you did a wonderful job with this video. And yes, not a week goes by that I don't think how this world would be a lot funnier, a lot smarter, with Don among us.

Glad you liked it and remembered it.
No, "Live It Up" is the same length on the EP and video.
