The Mezuzah is the box, that contains a pergament with the "Shma Jisrael" the jewish creed. Actually, the little pergament is the mezuzah, but today, the whole "box" is called a mezuzah. Mezuzahs mark a house as jewish and remember their inhabitants of their love to g-d and the life as jew.
