  • Suggesting in any way to not where a safety harness given in this video is irresponsible. Carelessness does not make a good sailor.

Harnesses are no substitute for the all important rule, one hand for yourself, one hand for the ship. We feel harness's should only be worn when you feel you need one. We feel we need one when we are working on deck in rough weather, when we go out on the bowsprit if we are on our own or when we are alone on the foredek at night.

You may feel you need one all the time. But this raises the question, will you have the skills necessary to move about the boat when you happen to rush up from down below in such a hurry that you don't have time to put on that harness? Harnesses are like bouyancy jackets, they are aids not solutions. Remember, we have each sailed 200,000 miles crossed oceans in 20 different vessels all without major mishap. So our choice definitely worked for us.

  • The producer was not trying to imply that the Pardey's were sailing in 25 kts as Lin walked the deck. It's obvious that they are sailing in extremely light winds in this scene. Her advice, though, about learning to walk the deck in strong winds is well taken. If viewers would like to see the Pardeys sailing in storm conditions, watch Storm Tactics Preview.

  • If your a novice sailor lacking the confidence and god forbid the ability to use good judgment this could get you into some serious trouble. Do this with someone else on board just in case you fall off.

  • @TheSailingChannel You are absolutely correct. The fact that they were able to short tack out of a very crowded Ventura Harbor on a Saturday with no engine with barely a breath of wind demonstrates the Pardey's abilities as exceedingly good sailors. Any advice from them is well worth heeding.

  • Love seeing the Pardey's on the water! Keep 'em coming!

  • 25kts of wind ....right!
