@packardtwelve ... that is a fact... jay leno has a '32 or '34 packard twelve. according to him, the motor has NEVER been taken apart and still doesn't burn or leak oil and runs like a dream.
there's a video here on youtube of a nickel balancing on edge on a running packard straight eight.

@gunslinger2172 ... not to pick nits, but these weren't the same engines - they were just manufactured by the same company.
the automotive V-12 displaced 452 cubic inches, the PT boat motors were in the ballpark of 2,500 cubic inches.
wikipedia has a number of excellent articles about them.
as to the car motors, i helped my father rebuild the V-12 in his 1933 Packard Victoria Coupe about 40 years ago. i still have the factory technical and repair manual for it. wish i still had the car.
