KNIFE
Digital Video
Duration: 3 minutes
Year: 2003
This video shows a person's hand cutting in slices a pear without the presence of the knife; however, we can see how the pear falls down with the movement of the hand. The video generates a "visual proposition" in which the object that executes the action, is not visually present.
What evocates the object, is -in part- the hand's gesture (a horizontal movement); and in part, the action or primary function of the non-visible knife. The action of slicing a fruit becomes present as we see how the pear falls down in slices.
With these moving images, it's emphasized the role of the "reader" as an active filler of indeterminate lectures. The reader fills the action with available elements and actualizes them in the imagination; making them appear as intuitive presences.
This locates the spectator in an inevitable role of creator and recreator of situations; in consequence, a recreator of reality.
