How many Muslim wife beaters do you personally know, or are u going by propaganda and gossip?
I know at least 20 families, well, none of which have relationships that different to 'western'. I know for a fact that respecting and caring for ones wife is a requirement in Islam, it is written in the Quran.
Whilst your culture may not agree with headscarfes, heard of respecting others? women often find it liberating that they don't have to be judged on their looks or clothes, but rather, the person.

After years of torture by the Savak, Iranians overthrew him, elected Khomeni, who hated the US.(DUH! after years of vicious rule people want revenge.)

Go to Iran (if your a woman) or send your wife or girlfriend there without the "proper garments" and see if she retruns with stories of tolerance towards women in Islam or if she returns at all.

Every race releigion and creed has men that abuse their wifes, why do you only single out christians, in Islam however it is the RULE not the exception which is why I brought it up, you completely missed your mark.

Saddam, murdering sociopathic that he was, DID allow women to vote, go to university, women NEVER required to wear headcovering. Iraq had highest educational level for women in the Middle East, lowest infant death rate. But our "democracy" made it impossible for ANYONE to go to school because of destruction, lack of electricity, water. Now, infant death rate is HIGHEST in Middle East due to lack of sanitation, medicine, hospitals, and bombings.
