Even after having mentioned the two usual problems most San Francisco residents face I still wouldn't discourage incoming students from bringing their vehicle up here.
It is better to experience the roads for yourself first. And a final fact to keep in mind about San Francisco streets is that many of them are one-way, so pay attention to the direction in which the cars are parked. If the vehicles on the right and left side of the street are facing the same direction, you know it's a one-way.
0:58 the real reason not to bring your cars up here is because parking is sometimes difficult to come across and there are some steep hills in the city that will push your vehicle to the limit, not because "public transportation is really great."
While it is true that you can reach any & every street throughout San Francisco via the various buses and trains, it is also true that the buses are so few that it often results in buses being filled to maximum capacity.
