I travelled on Eurostar from Waterloo International 3 days after it opened and 3 days before it closed.

This video is an account of those two trips.

14/11/94 TV News Report on the opening day
17/11/94 Paris Outbound
18/11/94 Paris Return
10/11/07 Brussels Return
13/11/07 18:30 Bickley: Last two trains out of Waterloo
13/11/07 19:35 Bickley: Last train into Waterloo
13/11/07 20:15 Waterloo International: The immediate aftermath after the final passengers arrive.

In answer to my puzzlement on the film, as to whether cars were using the tunnel on 17/11/94 I've looked up the facts below.

1994 - 6th May
Official opening by Queen Elizabeth II and French President François Mitterand.

1994 - 1st June
First international freight train in commercial service through the Channel Tunnel.

1994 - 25th July
Start of commercial truck shuttle service.

1994 - 14th November
Start of the commercial Eurostar service through the Channel Tunnel.

1994 - 22nd December
Start of the commercial passenger shuttle service for cars.

  • in august 2007 I went to paris from waterloo. 1 and a half years later I went to paris from st.pancras. st.pancras is so much better but it is so sad to see waterloo go. Did you know that it has just been abandoned and just boarded up? your baby is funny!

  • see the bit at waterloo were you show the depature board and the clock. The last i was there, which was about 5-6 months ago it was full of dirt, dust and grease. It was sad to see it like it but it would of been even sader if the eurostar stopped altogether.

  • lovley video these are my favorate trains in the world but i guess they've moved on

  • I was 3 months and 7 days old when it opened =]

  • You have done a great video. I have got a lot of emotions on it. Thanks.

  • What a great film, the beginning and end of an interesting railway era. The Southern Region will seem dull without them. Does your son, Alex (seelking) still like buses! Thank you both for your comments.
