  • I'm playing a 77 Gibson SG at the moment and I just don't think I could get a sound anything like this for this sort of song, also I've never had reason to own that sort of pick, so how easy is it just with a normal one? Thanks

  • @DamnedDamnedDamned1 It's like any technique, if you practice hybrid picking with the pick between thumb and first finger, you can then play the bassline. then move other fingers to pick the melody. If you want to watch some hybrid, check out Albert Lee. Good luck

  • Does Fast Eddie remember Shadowmusic 1947 (q.v.)?

  • Of course. How you doin dave. Checked out your website. You can still play that guitar. Can you believe the years that have passed. Do you know anything about Geoff. I'm still in touch with Colin

  • With the capo on the 2nd, the key of the song is F#, is that right? I seem to be able to sing it in that key, whereas in E, if Cash did it in that key, it's a little too bass.

Really enjoy these videos, thanks for the effort.

  • That's my interpretation. Most bands i have seen do it in E, then the singer jumps up an octave on the last line. I can just reach the bass note in F#, hence its easier to show you all the song with capo, as the finger positions will be relative at any position. Key the song so you can get the low note. I think its ounds best to do that

  • Very cool.

  • Now I can say this is the most original Folsom Prison Blues I've ever heard! Thank you!

  • great lesson...i am being drawn to this style of playing as im getting older...having wasted years trying to play distorted metal/rock riffs.....

  • Excellent! Please please please do a even slower down version or close up of your right hand so I can see how you do the thumb picking.Keep it up!

  • hey could you tell me what is the solo

  • very nice! a bit of spring reverb would be even nicer :)

  • That's fantastic - wish I could do that travis picking, I can play the song pretty well except for that.
