From June 10, 2004.
Normal PROTOTYPE mode, 208 chains, and 6,546,030 points.
Prototype mode uses a limited reserve of ammo for both normal shot and homing lasers, and is replenished with bullet absorption. So it's possible to release multiple homing lasers one after another, making big enemies and bosses done away with in no time. However keeping the chain going is still a challenge...and some slightly different strategies are required to achieve maximum results.

The different 'proto strategies' are less subtle for this chapter.
For a short time, this was also top score at Ikaruga.co.uk; until prototype mode legend, rjpageuk, destroyed it.

  • Is it me or are 2&3 harder than 4&5?

  • @chuchu2019

When it comes to chaining, yeah, 2&3 are harder.

When it's just surviving, I think the boss rush in ch5 is hardest (unless it's in prototype mode)... and while ch4 is hard at first, it gets easier with practice; probably easier than ch3...and maybe ch2 as well. So no. It's not just you...

  • Did you just randomly blow up there at the very end? Lol.

  • hahahaha boss got owned

  • WOWW boupoussou got owned in exactly 2.5 seconds lolll

  • Oh, I see. No wonder it looked different. Many thanks.

  • The normal shots also decrease the ammometer too. So you don't have unlimited normal shots in prototype like you do in the standard mode. Though if you run out, you can still kill enemies at point blank range. And you replenish ammo by absorbing enemy bullets.

And the different ship is just the player 2 ship (Ginkei). You can use it in the standard mode, too. Just use a controller plugged into the player2 port to start the game, and there you go.
