Levitating Spinning Disk

Basically a magnetized spinning top above a circular magnetic base. With some fine tuning using metal and plastic washers you can make the gravitational down force equal to the repulsive upward magnetic force. Equals = levitation! The faster you spin it, th more stable you can make it, thus the longer it stays in the air. best i've got so far is 1min, 40s.

sorry I thought i'd written this earlier. I didn't build it, it was a present. If you search in google for "spin stabilised magnetic levitation" you might find some stuff on it, and maybe how to build one!

I bet you could rig up a little device that adds spin to keep it going without touching it, maybe some more magnets.

yeh it's somethin i'd like to figure out, but haven't had any great ideas yet. maybe a stream of air blowin along one side? what's interestin is you find it gives a damn accurate idea of the grav field. over time u come back to it and realise it's now too heavy or too light cause the field has changed, even the angle at which it is set alters. not that i sit here everyday like a crazy person O.o.
