Carl Fogarty's Ducati 916 and Scott Russell's Kawasaki ZXR750R are the stuff of legend - and both can now be had for bargain money, but does the reality match the dream?

Check out the video below to see the bikes in action and decide for yourself.

  • I think a lot of people here are missing an obvious point: Ducati's are not expensive to BUY, they are expensive to OWN. The Kawasaki starts every time you turn the key and it's greatest expense is gas and tires. Maintenance on the Duc will eat you out of house and home. Don't fool yourself thinking you can do it yourself- you screw up one cam belt learning you will destroy the entire motor. People who ride Duc's live in big houses. People who fix Duc's live in bigger houses.

  • lol. that should be written on a plaque somewhere for everyone to see.

  • kwakasaki :D

  • The ZXR belonged to me and was great fun to ride, flatslide carbs sounded awesome although a pain away from the track. It was a Ducati bias test as it was something to do with Foggy being at the Goodwood festival of speed.

I prefer the look of the Ducati but not sure if it was ever worth the 20k price tag, the ZXR was half the price and four years older and a hell of a lot rarer, always look at this video and think why the hell did'nt he give the zxr a bloody good thrashing, gave up near the end

  • What the hell I'm looking at?

  • @duanedragon2 Are you serious, doing the belts etc isn't like they make out they are but you must know what your doing with engines. There are lots of guides how to do them on the internet. Its not as hard as its made out to be But if you disagree with my statement then leave well alone. I've owned 3 Ducati's a 600, 900 and now an 1198s. We have allways done our own work on the old machines. My 1198 is under warenty. The 1198s is amazing machine, its awsome to ride properly.

  • Who else went here becuz of da movie fled frm 1996?

  • some of you guys aint got a clue. Ive had 4 dukes various gsxrs an R1. yes there are faster bikes out there. yes some are cheeper to maintain. But they aint that expensive to run. Belts you can be done for £100 every two years, (expensive i dont think so) Oil and filter the same price. I never had a single problem with three of them but the fisrt the regulator went, Jee whiz.

  • @bigcheesecrx Man i can t agrea more..! i guess i have a paixon for all tips off motorcycles=).. The brutal and torque sound off vtwins and the sprint rotation off 4 cylinders 2 sounds that i allways dream=)

  • the kawasaki's rider is a n00b

  • i agree, these comments are stupid, i own a ducati, it has only cost me like 40 bucks more an oil change then my R6. i dont think im better then anyone else because i ride a ducati, i loved my R6, it just didnt have enough low end grunt for street riding, so i wanted a more powerful bike that i didnt have to wait till 12,000 rpm to get power from. and i love the sound of a v twin. i love rc-51's as well, there are ppl who like v twins and ppl who like 4 bangers, i think they both sound great.

  • @funkyrimpler You spent that much on a streetbike and are calling Me stupid?
