A montage of photos taken over the course of building my outdoor fireplace. It's not completely finished yet - all but the rendering and painting! Roll on Summer - BBQ's, beers, pool parties! Not bad for a 41 year old chick from Te Awamutu! Have only managed to do it over the school holiday breaks as (being a teacher) it is too busy during the term and most weekends are taken up with kids sports!

Copyright note: I do not own the songs I have playing during this montage.

I have now finished, so check out my NEW video of the whole process!

  • Thanks for that. I did line it with firebricks AND I even used refractory cement too! It's all finished now but the weather is not good enough for outdoor fires - PLUS we are selling the house now!

  • The foundations were over 600mm deep and full of reinforcing steel through it and also I had steel running through the pillar and intot he foundations - She aint moving!

  • I laid the concrete foundations of the wall and pillars in one "block". I just started with the pillars due to the angles and they were easy!

  • Make sure you line the inside of the firebox and chimmney with fire rated brick otherwise the concrete block will crack and disentegrate. also line the bottom do not light a fire on bare concrete it can and will cause small explosions. Hopefully this is in your plans, I learned the hard way !

  • Looks like you guys did a nice job on it. I see a couple halves in walls but who really cares since you have so much reinforcement/grout.....plus it's all covered. You almost done with it?

  • QUESTION!!!!...When you started the pillars did you sink them in the ground or layed them on top of the ground??

  • Where,s the Pizza Oven ?

    LOVE YOUR WORK CUZ
