Make sure you line the inside of the firebox and chimmney with fire rated brick otherwise the concrete block will crack and disentegrate. also line the bottom do not light a fire on bare concrete it can and will cause small explosions. Hopefully this is in your plans, I learned the hard way !

Looks like you guys did a nice job on it. I see a couple halves in walls but who really cares since you have so much reinforcement/grout.....plus it's all covered. You almost done with it?

QUESTION!!!!...When you started the pillars did you sink them in the ground or layed them on top of the ground??

Thanks for that. I did line it with firebricks AND I even used refractory cement too! It's all finished now but the weather is not good enough for outdoor fires - PLUS we are selling the house now!

The foundations were over 600mm deep and full of reinforcing steel through it and also I had steel running through the pillar and intot he foundations - She aint moving!

I laid the concrete foundations of the wall and pillars in one "block". I just started with the pillars due to the angles and they were easy!
