Basic overview of the UDK Material Editor. Part 2.

I will cover creating an RGB "merge" texture, how to import a texture without an alpha channel, how to create a new material, some material node manipulation, setting up color changers for use in Material Instances (MIC), creating an MIC, and placing an MIC in game.

Please watch my Content Browser introduction if you are not familiar.

  • Great tutorial - thank you. How did you shrink down the red channel (the clouds render) so that it only appears in the center of the decal? I can't seem to shrink it down unless I do it Photoshop before I import it. - Thanks

  • Thank you so much for making this tutorial! Very helpful for me in understanding some of the material possibilities in UDK!

  • Thank you for your tutorials, are so good! They've helped me too much! ^^ I'm gonna watch the intermediate level! :)

  • Hey, was just wondering, you see on your Vector Parameter for your "InnerCloudColor", the values for your RGB+Alpha on that particular Vector Parameter are (200,100,1e+003,1), I was wondering what the "1e+003" value is used for and how you achieved it!? I'd assume its some sort of gradient or function that makes the B value vary slightly over time but could you tell me why its used? I tried typing "1e+003" into my B value to test it out but my B value just resets to "1.000" after I hit enter. :S
