Atomic Journeys: Welcome to Ground Zero
Visit and experience America's original nuclear weapons testing sites...

Through the use of spectacular, never-before-seen nuclear test footage, travels to ten former testing sites and explores the history, physical changes resulting from the tests and current condition of these amazing and important places. Visit the notorious Nevada Test Site, known as the most bombed place on earth. Over 900 nuclear explosions where detonated at this location -- an area larger than the State of Rhode Island. Once upon a time these locations were kept top secret, but today, with this 60th Anniversary Diamond Edition of Atomic Journeys: Welcome to Ground Zero, you will finally see these historic hot spots. Preserving the incredible legacy of America's nuclear testing program stands as a reminder of the fine line between the progress of mankind and the destruction of the earth. Once you understand what really happened at the Ground Zero nuclear testing sites, you will never be the same.

  • ....why does this keep popping up on every single video embed of my Google Reader feed?

  • All that mess happening in my own backyard. And they wonder why we have so man earthquakes now days! People on a power trip.

  • So now we know how that sinkhole in Guatemala City was formed. With all that heat and pressure maybe they could put one of those bombs into a coal mine and turn it into a diamond mine. Ha ha. There have been other underground tests with better images of the underground pocket that was formed, I would like to get a better look at that.

  • The Feds now own the Salmon Site although access isn't secure. Interesting legacy. Interesting project.

  • ah ha!

and i always thot atomic testing was only conducted in the far western deserts. i [and millions of other americans] never was told about this. jeez, dick "buckshot" cheney must have been involved..

  • If I remember correctly the Threshold Treaty had been thought up or something for ages before it was done, other than that they had also done this test to see if you could 'fake' a signal, by making the seismic signature look smaller than the device actually generated, so I suppose that could be what he was referring to.

  • What he's referring to is the (Threshold Test Ban Treaty) which was signed in 1974 and ratified two years later. The problem here is that the Salmon and Sterling tests were conducted in 1964 and 66. So in other words, he has doo-doo on his face.

  • Great- I am just thrilled to know they were experimenting with nucleur bombs near me when I was a young child. It is also very interesting to know that 40+ years ago they had a camera like the one used in the video. The cameras that the public had were Brownies, not even close to what was used in this video.

  • Was special permission needed to enter the test site?

Also, I noted later in "Atomic Journeys" that the US tested devices in the megaton range (namely, Fautless and Cannakin). Was there an alteration to the Limited Test Ban that allowed for these tests?
