"Big" and Art didn't tell anyone they were coming to Indy. But, when they got there, the "looky-loos" and critics were also there, saying..."There's a couple of old dinosaurs over there with a car out of a museum!" However, by the time qualifying was over, Garlits set Top Speed of the Meet....and everyone knew they better watch out !

With a handshake, a partnership was formed...."Garlits and Malone"..Don Garlits rolled Swamp Rat-26...a car that was 5 years old, and countless runs on it, out of the museum.
With a new updated rear wing, and a fresh engine, clutch, and a few spare parts along with his buddy Art Malone, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits won the 1984 US Nationals....certainly in my mind, one of the greatest comebacks in Drag Racing History. (part 2 of 2)
