The actresses were great too.

Nigel, Vita's youngest son brought out the book "Portrait of a Marriage" to show the world, what a wonderful passionate person his mother was and what life she loved & lived. It's a wonderful documentation. Did you read the book "Violet to Vita"? A collection of Violet's letters to Vita between 1910-1921.

The relationship among these two women belongs to the biggest "Love Stories" in (European) culture history in the 20th century.

Note Nigel was uncomfortable with the lesbian continual attachment and it is said, he surpressed further letters which showed the affair continuing and the affir with Viginia Wolfe etc.....in the film he made sure she returned to Nigel..but he was homosexual...it is said they came to a happy medium..

@Ilkamy I read about these two in The US Magazine People in the 1980's, where they did profiles of people who loved, lost, and sacrificed all in the name of Love including King Edward who abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson.

portrait of a marriage maybe because she stayed with her husband despite of the strong feelings she got for violet .she might gone somewhere but still coming back to her husband.

i felt like ive ride in a rollercoaster it's scary yet exciting for watching this.

i dont understand why she is so upset to violet if ever she made love to dennis,when she herself have family first and got 2 kids,i imagine how their life been through this is beyond complicated.i feel really sad it just that

Hi Renster, sure Nigel & his brother Ben felt uncomfortable with the continual love-affairs of their mother. But which cild doesn't?

The film ends with Vita's return to her family, cause that's what she did. But she didn't stop to live her love-life with lesbian romances. The relationship to Harold continued as a companionship. After a time of separation Vita (Mitya) met Violet (Lushka) again... Remember the film-beginning!

The book is Vita's manuscript!

Nigel found it in 1962 after her death.
