Emma Goldman (18691940) stands as a major figure in the history of American radicalism and feminism. An influential and well-known anarchist of her day, Goldman was an early advocate of free speech, birth control, women's equality and independence, and union organization. Her criticism of mandatory conscription of young men into the military during World War I led to a two-year imprisonment, followed by her deportation in 1919. For the rest of her life until her death in 1940, she continued to participate in the social and political movements of her age, from the Russian Revolution to the Spanish Civil War.

  • People need to realize that anarchism isn't something to compare to terrorism. We as anarchists are a peaceful people. Anyone who promotes anarchy through violence or terrorism should just go join all the corrupt politicians.

  • I don't care how hateful those comments below may have been, or how insulting. Anarchism is also about the freedom of OPEN information(kinda like youtube...kinda). Meaning we could counter the offensive person's arguments in an open forum. Instead we have no clue what they said and you are participating in Information Warfare. thought you were on our side?

  • She was not a real anarchist, she was a violent joke of a philosopher.

  • You are completely right about the principle of nonviolence most of the Anarchists follow.

Most of us learned from the failures called "propaganda of the deed". If someone really wants to understand your statement, she or he can read even Berkman himself in ABC of Anarchism.

The people who think Anarchy as something violent tend to deny the bigger violence of society they live in.The foreign (warmongering)policy of the USA, alone in the last 60 years, is enough proof for my statement.

  • @JimmyCTunny as a fellow anarchist , i say we must make this known t othe masses , anarchism is freedom, violence is necessary in a world that only responds to tragedy

  • @JimmyCTunny Are you saying that Emma Goldman wasn't a Anarchist ? How about the people who fought in the Spanish Civil War? You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

  • @wormword I never stated that killing someone is not a violent act. In fact, I said quite the opposite. Also, one so called anarchist doesn't define the future for any other anarchist.

  • @JimmyCTunny That really doesn’t explain where you get the idea that Anarchist is not violent. Out side of the belief that there should be no government, there is no Anarchist ideology. Each Anarchist has a different idea of what Anarchy is. There are Anarchist who believe that violence can be useful, and some who don’t. Just look at both Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman wanted to have Henry Clay Frick killed. Alexander Berkman actually tried to kill Frick. How is that not a violent act?

  • @wormword It is not an idea, it is the ideology and the truth of anarchism. Violence/terrorism destroys one's freedom, it does not establish it.

  • @JimmyCTunny Really? Where did you get that idea?

  • "In prison for talking." You mean like her cousins are doing today to people with their hate crime laws? See Brendon O'Connell Perth Australia.
