Thanks for the response. Torture-porn is a much better term for what I meant. Saw did have a good plot, but I discovered when watching it with some of my friends that people in the theater were way into the violence. Since then I've had trouble enjoying movies with a high level of violence, so I've become acutely aware of the level of graphic violence in a movie.

A graphic death is only for the audience, it really isn't necessary to explain any element of the story / change in a character
