  • Windwos eXPerience is actually Windows NT 5.1 and Windows 2000 is actually Windows NT 5.0; the rest of the Microsoft Windows releases starting with Windows 2000, but not ME, are all part of the Windows NT family

  • Yes it were released.

  • @MasterOfMonopoly No. Windows NT 5.0 was a continuation of the NT naming scheme. This ended when the release date was near 2000, hence the name Windows 2000.

If Windows 2000 were released any sooner, it would be NT 5.0.

If you look carefully. XP is 5.2 (Major is still 5). Both 2000 and XP are NT 5. NT was never a codename.

  • @dochertyryan c:\windows

  • @simteknemesis Where's Explorer.exe located?

  • Windows NT 5.0 was a codename for windows 2000

  • @ViBENo1 Windows 2000 IS NT 5.0

  • @zang274

I was talking about the official names, not the code-names. Microsoft decided to name it publicly different because of marketing reasons.
