  • what should i do when i first bring home my rat?

besides place it in my cage.

    =]

  • i wouls first off try and get at least two rats. they like company of their own kind as well as the presents of you as well.

but i would let the rat get all confy with its new home before interacting with it, make shure it has plenty of food and water everyday and a clean cage, then when you can tell it knows its cage well, you can start toi mingle with it, take small steps dont just crab the rat let it come to you. If you have any more questions ask me! =]

  • yea i read through the book sum in the store and it all way realy helpfull, my mom sayed we were leaving so i just asked if i could just get it and it turned out to be very helpful. Yea, i kno the ratclub website your talking bout,..i saw a link on one of your vid. its got that cage mesurer on it. (VERY HELPFUL BY THE WAY)

  • I used to use hay, but now I use recycled paper cat litter pellets which doesn't clump and it absorbs pee. I also use vinegar for cleaning because it is a natural way of killing bacteria and has no chemicals. It smells rather bad tho so I wipe the cage and toys down with a bit of vanilla essence after.

  • well that seems to work out for you. I have that cage cleaner in my vid, and its got lemon in it and so it smells good, my rats always wish they could lick it all up...haha but thats not safe lol.

  • Thats not true about the pine and cedar. They contain phenols that destroy your rats liver and system. They would easily die from it.

  • an easy way to recycle and get free bedding at the same time is to first ask your family to buy eggs that come in a paper cartin, then ask for an egg carten storage to be made. When you have a bunch, tear the egg cartens up into peaces. about a square inch. try to make them sort of even. then let the pieces sit in warm water for a half an hour. then put the slush in a blender intell it's in clunks, but not liquid. take this bedding, and put it on sevrel baking sheets. put in in the oven on broil.

  • my first rat Bob was NOT a clean rat he had a bed but he used his food bowl and he would pee or poo and roll in it he was hilarious to watch though but lots of bathes:P!

  • Carefresh can actually be pretty dusty :S, but then again all bedding can. Ultra is better. Softwoods (pine cedar) have Phenols that destroy body systems.

  • The other thing about Pine and Cedar is that they have aromatic oils that are bad for your rattie's respiratory system.

  • ok thnx
