  • The easiest way to compare VN so that Americans can understand is that Vietnam is a lot like Texas. Vietnam is the only country to successfully secede from China just like Texas from Mexico or the 13 states from British Empire.

  • Vietnam is quite amazing country. Vietnam and Japan are only two countries to stop repeated Mongol invasions. They also beat Japan, France, USA, China...all during the height of these countries' power. Vietnam now has the most powerful military in Southeast Asia.

  • This problem started with the French involving themselves in the affairs of a people thousands of miles away from France. This speech is about the post colonial era. Ho Chi Minh already picked which side would help him and his people.

What about Ho Chi Minh fighting the Japanese with the help of the OSS? What about the rearming of 60,000 Japanese POWs just days after the Japanese surrender, 1945, to go fight Ho Chi Minh after he was our ally just days prior?

Truman turned on Ho for what?

  • Thank you very much for posting this. I admire Mark Moyar and his work on Ngo Dinh Diem very much.
