by Jeremy Holiday through Professor Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II, opensourcebuddhism.org This excellent work investigates the relationship between Trappist monk Thomas Merton and his Asian adventures, specifically the relevance of his meeting with Chatrul Rinpoche of the Nyingma Tradition. This work also reveals the Buddhist attitude towards those of other faiths who have attained some higher realization.

  • Thanks Jeremy, I think Buddhism and Christianity have a lot in common in their mystical traditions. I think language and terminology cause barriers, however we find that experience is still the same between people.

Yes! But the essence of all religions is one and the same to bring mankind closer to the source of existence which is God, peace, love, gentility, and unity. "Religion should be a cause of love and unity; otherwise, we are better off without it." Baha'u'llah, the Prophet Founder of the Baha'i Faith, 1817-92.

  • Know the music of Urbano Medeiros. Spiritual son of Thomas Merton!

  • "But on December 10th, on his birthday, he would die." Whose birthday? Thomas Merton's? Thomas Merton's birthday was on January 31, 1915.

  • He was ready to ascend.

  • Love it, especially that initial quote about deep solitude and gentleness. There is a resistance in me to surrendering completely to this eventhough I feel it calling me home.

  • hey man. are the other parts of this available? thank

  • HOW Beautiful and it rings so true. Merton must have known he was moving on. THE PEACE that these spirits knew (know?) is something I long for. Thank you for sharing this.
