From Jim Mills' third album, "The Hide Head Blues."
- Jim Mills: banjo
- Adam Steffey: mandolin
- Stuart Duncan: clawhammer banjo intro, violin/fiddle
- Barry Bales: bass
- Dan Tyminski: guitar

The tune begins with Stuart playing the original melody on a Civil War-era frailing banjo. Jim Mills and the boys pick up the tempo slightly afterwards and play his own arrangement. The tune also bears the name "Cluck Old Hen", but Jim decided to go with the original title for the album. Jim plays one of his finest Mastertone flat-head banjos, the "Bill Worrell" on this cut.

  • You mean Jim Mills makes the banjo Cluck! LOL. He's one of my favorites.

  • @Robin18us He sure does! I love the little choke he adds in the B part.

  • Great arrangement...Jim Mills makes the banjo talk

  • Simply love this song!!! I dream of doing a crazy, authentic, american, classical square dance with a special girl... on this song... until we fall down tired on the floor.. :))..

  • love it :D :D :D :D :D :D

  • One thing about Jim Mills is that his rhythm is rock solid and he picks very clean which is so important to making a banjo's sound the best. I just wish i had the bucks to buy one of his pre war Gibson's.

  • @DiableryOfficial

  • @teakbridge101 i just really like the intro :P haha

  • Now that's some pickin'. Leftover Salmon lifted this tune for their song 'Ask The Fish'.

  • great song. Leftover Salmon lifted this melody for their song 'Ask The Fish'.

  • Nice job, Matt! I love Jim's version as much as you do! Great chicken pictures, since it sets the right feeling for the tune.
