*** Note - The song does not play correctly at the beginning, throwing the tempo off for a good portion of the video (at least it does it to me).

No. SupCom:FA > TA. But Total Annihilation is more like a Father to SupCom than a competitor.
Also, TA is over 10 years old and it has no strategic zoom. It's still one of the best RTS out there, but SupCom:FA is definitely the best now.

No, the game lets aircraft fly through each other. They were simply dying like crazy because they are really weak. That's why there was a ton of them.

one question; did you decrease the mouse scroll speed? I have yet to do that. if so, any reccomended settings?

No, I decreased the Pan Speed. Settings 1-4 at -10 game speed is what you see most of the time.
To my knowledge, there is no way to decrease the mouse speed.
