In the 1990s Dr. Wilfred Jeffery and his team of researchers at the University of British Columbia made a significant discovery that lead to several patents around the protein called P97. Independent clinical trials were run and the team's findings were validated.
What they discovered was that people suffering from Alzheimer's disease have higher than normal levels of P97 in their blood and that there is a direct correlation between the levels of P97 and the onset of Alzheimer's.
Alzheimer's affects over 24 million people worldwide with associated costs of more than 100 Billion dollars annually.
It is now possible to develop a blood test to measure the level of P97 may be used as a Biomarker that can help physicians to provide a diagnosis for the disease and help to develop therapies to delay the onset of this terrible disease.
Bioasis is now engaged in more trials, and hopes to to introduce an assay to test for the levels of P97 in the blood.
