I was like a bird in a golden cage, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Where is this palace located? I assume somewhere in India?

I love this film, but most of its audience have never even ALLOWED themselves to watch authentic Bollywood films simply for the fact that they're foreign and not in English. Ethnocentric audience are being catered to by Tarsem Singh's ability to convey authentic "Indian romance" into "western/white" conventions. Tip to the Western audience who loved this film: at least TRY to expose yourself to Indian films to see the authenticity of such scenes as this.

I love how this scene pays tribute to the "general" technique of displaying romance in bollywood musicals/films, i.e. the characters' poetic exchange backed by a melancholic song, the alternative shots of close-up/pan-outwards/jump-cut
, and the palatial setting. And I find it even more interesting that such an execution in film can only appeal to Western audience when the characters are both white and speaking in English, heh. -
@ladybugzzbb That comment made me tear up.

Hmmm, I don't hear it. Lol, I wouldn't be surprised if Tarsem Singh did that on purpose as some sort of subliminal joke.
