The ending of the play almost brought tears to my eyes when I saw it. The Phantom was left heartbroken and forgotten! I think Phantom of the Opera is one of the best musicals of our time.

Andrew Loyd Weber, wove a common thread through most of his plays and each became an immortal masterpiece. "So in a way, she saved him", is a humble statement or a reluctance to give credit, where credit is due? Christine's faith, guided her to pray, God grant me the courage to save him and was answered immediately. Her choice compelled the Angel in Hell, to follow suit with his own selfless choice, heard as a sincere prayer, allows God the opportunity to grant forgiveness..

After the Angel in Hell, bellowed his sadistic choice demanding Christine to make her choice, she prays, "God, give me the courage to save him". The Phantom, so moved by her selfless choice, was drawn to follow suit. A selfless choice, his mournful plea begging them to leave him alone, was heard as a sincere prayer. God granted hers and the Phantom forgiveness. Freeing his soul from Hell, suffering the pain, agony & despair of a lost soul. Must sacrifice our will, to do Thy Will...

Any person who is disabled and has been rejected by a lover or the world will love this show more than anything--any disability will make one connect emotionaly to erik.This song is for the Christine who betrayed me--and to her I no longer exist, I wish I could die the way Erik did--but I am forced to live like this.

@Xakana My interpretation is that (as in the novel) Erik was dying. His actions up till he met Christine were him giving one last "Fuck You" to the world that shunned him, but she brought his humanity back (remember, up till that point, he was a psychopath and a killer). In the end, he dies, but not as a monster or a killer, as a human being who was able to feel happiness and love before he went, not bitterness. So in a way, she saved him.
