Born in Pickering, Ontario, he started his career with the Detroit Red Wings.
The next season, he was traded to the L.A. Kings, and built a reputation as a tough guy to play against and someone who speaks his mind.
Some people loved his style. Others? Not so much.
Sean got hit with the label "Most Hated Man in the NHL."
Fast-forward to 2007, Sean went to the New York Rangers and established himself as a valuable player, not just a shit disturber.
But in last season's playoffs Sean stirred things up again - screening New Jersey's Martin Brodeur like it had never been done before.
The NHL wasn't amused and had to create a new rule to stop it.
Off the ice, Sean is a character too.
He loves the Hollywood life, he's dated celebrities and spent this past summer as an intern at Vogue.
This year, Avery's starring in two new lineups - the GAP fall 2008 campaign and the Dallas Stars, after he was signed by his former roommate, general manager Brett Hull.

  • Don Cherry plays an important role for Canadians. Every time we start feeling culturally superior to our neighbours to the South, Don reminds us that, we too have inbred rednecks amongst us.

  • "I didn't read Mobey Dick." LOL neither did I but that doesn't mean I missed out on life.

  • @21fretsalute That's a GREAT way of saying it!!! I HATE that **** Con Cherry! He cost Lemieux a 200 point season by influencing all the refs to HATE anyone who wasn't born on an ENGLISH - Canadian farm. Ontario farms aren't as "tough" to Con. LOL.

  • @21fretsalute Fuck you.

  • @McMahonHater Lmao, the majority voted to stay in Canada so by your logic, they should all fuck off? We are witnessing pure genius here, folks.

  • @MrZombieIsHungry Yup, I tend to agree. I know there's all this talk of 'respect' and 'the code' around the league but frankly, I don't think it really exists in today's NHL. Avery is an entertaining guy to watch and his skill gets overshadowed by his questionable actions and comments but people that hate him need to ask themselves if they wouldn't be a bit Avery-like if they were making millions of dollars off of their hard work.

  • @21fretsalute Lmao, good one, fret. The thing people don't understand about Don, though, is that he puts on an act when he's on HNIC for the sake of ratings. I saw a documentary on fighting in the NHL on the CBC and Don was interviewed. Day and night difference compared to his HNIC persona, right down to his speech and cadence. He intentionally says dumb and controversial things for the sake of ratings.

  • best of `the hour` - regards from germany
