Change Your Mind [Chapter 4]

Chapter 4:

The boys were setting up the fire pit while all the girls were inside getting together fire roasting goodies.

The fathers went to go get some bigger logs from across the campsite.
"So Joe..." Kevin said "Whats up with you and Gloria?"
"What? Where did that come from Kev?" Joe asked.
"Well you guys went into town yesterday right?"
"Yeah we walked around and shopped some."
"Is that it?" Nick asked.
"Yes Nicholas that is it." Joe said.
Nick and Kevin looked at each other, "Defensive." They said and Joe threw sticks at them both.
"Joe cut it out." Mr. Jonas said walking back with Mr. Morgan. They set down the pile of wood and then began to set up the fire structure.

The mothers left the kitchen to go dig up the skewers.
"So Alex..." Tori said "Whats up with you and Nick?"
"What do you mean? We're friends." Alex replied.
"Was that all that swim was today?" Glory smirked.
"Umm, yes." Alex said.
"So you totally werent staring at his chest then?" Tori said and Glory high fived her.
"Shut up you skanks." Alex said throwing marshmallows at them both.
"Alex cut it out." Mrs. Morgan said walking back in with Mrs. Jonas. They finished setting out the stuff on a tray before taking it all outside where the guys were just getting the fire started burning.

"Have you boys just been goofing off this whole time?" Mrs. Jonas asked with a laugh.
"Nick has issues when it comes to trying to light things..." Mr. Morgan replied.
Everyone let out a little laugh at that and Nick made a face.
The adults were all sitting in folding chairs as the fire began to blaze. The kids were scattered around on the ground on blankets.
Kevin & Tori were laying on their backs, staring up at the stars above. Joe had his arm around Gloria and they were talking quietly. Nick & Alex were just sitting there staring into the fire.
"Smores time!" Mrs. Morgan called a little while later. Materials were passed around and they all ate in happy silence until Mr. Jonas started telling scary stories.
The girls huddled into the guys as the night got chillier and eventually Nick looked down at Alex to see she had fallen asleep on his shoulder.
"I'm gonna take Alex inside." Nick said quietly.
"You want me to get her?" Mr. Morgan asked.
"No I got it." Nick said, picking her up easily.
He carried her up to her cabin and placed her in bed gently. He brushed a stray hair from her face and kissed her forehead lightly before turning to walk out of the room.
"Nicky?" he heard her say as he reached the doorway.
He turned around, "Yeah?"
"I've missed you." she said quietly and her eyes slid shut again. Nick turned off the light and left the cabin with a grin on his face.

Alex fell into a restless sleep and she began having the nightmare she always had she woke up screaming.
