A complete new story of Lyra and Pan in this new addition to Pullman's 'His Dark Materials'.

Five years after Lyra and Pan returned to Jordan College, shadows start to appear around Oxford. Not lang after the start of these events, Lyra and Pan are contacted by 2 strangers from another world.

In their world a war rages between the free spirits and the bound demons. The demons were normally bound to the surface of this world, but when Lyra and Will travelled between worlds, the delicate balance in dust was undone. The 2 strangers came to Jordan College to seek out Lyra, and bring her back to their world, to seek an item that will restore order to their world; The Mechanical Hourglass.

Together with these 2 spirits, Lyra and Pan set out on a journey to the world of the Hourglass, unaware that they are being watched and followed by 2 powerfull bound demons, known as Shimmers, which are determend to stop Lyra at any cost. But Lyra get's unexpected help from someone, she thought she would never see again.
