Thoroughbred Stallion Champagne Til Dawn was saved from Slaughter in January 2009. Former fractured fetlock joint is fused and he has mechanical founder in the opposite front foot. He was rescued and adopted shortly after being dumped at a Washington State auction. Rescuers are hopeful that he can live sound and pain free in his retirement. He will be gelded.

  • RIP Champagne Til Dawn. Your last days were peaceful and filled with an immense love, I'm sure.

  • Bless your heart for making his life better before taking away his suffering! If only we could afford them all the same. <3

  • Clearly sad. Clearly necessary to give him a gentle end. He was so, so lame. Sometimes the hardest choices have to be made quickly. FHOTD hesitated. More horses lost their lives. So sad, the horse industry. Champ was a throw-away. He was taken to a private barn, not a "rescue centre". His rescuers had good intentions. Poor judgement. I totally understand, I'm a sucker for a sweet face too.

  • joined together

  • what does it mean fused?

  • Aww, what a sweetie :]

  • aww. soo sad that he had to be put to sleep, but great to know his last days were how a horse should live. lucky boy getting recued by 'fugly lady'

your blog is ace btw. only thing that keeps me awake at work lol its great

  • I know that cat was definetly 'in charge' of proceedings! And your rescue centre is in charge of that lovely horse, thank goodness. Pity the UK dont do the same. I new of a mare in a disgusting condition and because she wasnt a score of '1' she was left where she was. Well done for saving him. I hope you get local funding/recognition.

  • What a sweetie. Look at him step right out!

  • Just lovely! I hope he continues to improve and has a long, pain-free retirement.
