Yeah, every movement has its symbol... but atheism is not a movement. That's the point, and that is why we don't need a symbol.

the American Atheist symbol is best. someone from another country could simply make it there's by changing the letter to the one that's the first from there country's name =]
I had a tattoo made on my forearm of it, to show my Atheism and American pride =] looks really nice! =D

I like the one Richard dawkins has on his website the stylised A
& yes I think atheists need a symbol so we can recognize each other , atheists need to get organised otherwise we will continue to be walked all over by the religious few & if you don’t want to be recognized don’t ware it.

my face, because why not.

1. It IS a movement. We have activists who promote questioning of delusional belief systems because these have proven harmful and destructive. Another reason for activism is to keep religious values from being imposed on us. It IS a movement.
2. It is important for other non-theists and religious people to recognize we are among them.
(I have a website dedicated to this very thing)

I too would like an easy way to identify someone devoted to logical honesty that I might otherwise miss in a sea of logic cheats. But I think a formal symbol is the wrong way, for numerous reasons I'm sure are already listed. Rather than one formal symbol, I think we should be looking for numerous helpful shibboleths. In a way, we already have some (I.P.U., flying spaghetti monster). But these are even used by the merely apatheistic and religious to specifically mock creationism or literalism.

I have the perfect atheist symbol. The blank space or absence of a symbol. Since there is no unifying factor for atheists other than a non-belief in deities, the absence of a symbol represents this perfectly. And it will cost you nothing to have it printed on your shirts or caps, and the pin would be the absence of a pin.
Anything else would send the wrong message.

I might also add that the letter A has many fonts and styles available to it.
So something that is discernable as the letter A, uppercase or lowercase, is still making the point.

I've just found that the A notion has already been suggested.
But it's a scarlet one. Why?
Just the letter A.
Any colour that it must take means it might get distracting connotations, or have trouble with a particular background.
Just the letter A.
I must add again that I think atheism doesn't need a symbol.

It doesn't need a symbol.
But if you want to consider one, the capital letter A comes to mind.

Athiesm needs no symbol, it is a lack of belief. It is nothing.
Why do people want a symbol? For unity? To give the weak minded something to rally abround?
If there were a universally accepted symbol for athiesm then it would be used to futher stygmatise athiests, and as a graphic on fox news everytime some fucktard misrepresents non-belief. This will just further justify the morons who believe athiesm is a religeon. Let athiesm be represented by ideas and people who can express them well.
I see what (both of) you are saying.
Basically: No need for a Symbol, because "the others" belong to a Religion (with a Symbol). Atheists are just... not in a Religion, so they don't need a Symbol. Sounds kinda logic to me.
But what if somebody wants to make clear he does not believe in a God. He wants to show that to the world.
What Symbol can he Tattoo on his Arm?
