This whooping crane has apparently lost its mate and has joined up with a pair of sandhills. They are spending the winter in our area in Crystal River, Florida. This whooping crane is one of only about 500 whoopers in existence.

  • Where was this taped? What area-state? And when? Obviously because of the banding on the legs and transmitter on the bird this is an Operation Migration whooper, or possibly one of the DAR birds from the ICF. Thanks!

  • This video was taped in our front yard in Citrus County, Florida a few months ago.

Yes, I am sure the whooper is an Operation Migration bird....we are pleased he spends the winter in our area.

  • This is great.! Thanks for sharing. You are so lucky to have one hanging out near you. And I think we are all lucky that you are cognizant of the whooping birds plight so he is safe.
