January 2nd 2011, by myself, and with the bright idea to use my Blackberry Tour to make a quick video. Unfortunately, I realized that any sense of speed in a video relies on the camera viewing the boat from a distance... which is pretty tough with this setup, unless I through the Blackberry overboard! :-)) So I'm on Irvine Lake running the 2hp Eska, and testing two Minn-Kota trolling motors. The Eska weighs only 18 pounds, maybe 18.5 with fuel, and pushes my 12 foot aluminum at about 5-7 mph. I use it on open water, and revert to the Minn-Kotas when in "fishing territory."

  • FYI........... I sold this little outboard last week, Jan. 27, '11, to a local sailing family, that'll probably use it on their dingy.

  • Cory... Fair question. In my video desc. paragraph, I explained and apologized up front. I shot the motor to show it in the "running condition." (I'm selling it on Craigslist. So.OC, CA) I share the same frustration on many videos when I'm looking for just technical info. or detailed operation images. And for boats, to get the true sense of speed, you really need to have a camera person shooting, preferably from shore or another boat. I'm going out again, but with my full video camera.

  • I saw another youtube video of the cayak or catamaran with the "3" Minn-Kotas, really slipping through the water quite fast. I love the concept of electric over gas, but here I find myself now with the Eska, a 5hp Mercury and an 8hp Evinrude. I'm selling the Eska and the Mercury outboards on Craigslist, Orange County, CA.

  • why dont you show from a side view of how fast the boat is skimming on the water? from the back view we canot see and estimate what your total boat weight + you the motor is pushing? all we see is water churning up in the back? and it looks like your struggling upstream in windwaves?

  • thats why we like Minn Kota !!! Noise...
