mannamama - where is research on your claims of juicing cAUSING CANCERS, ETC. KNOW ANYONE HAD CANCER FROM LIFELONG JUICING - MAYBE GERSON THERAPY CANCER PATIENTS DIED.

To me, it makes good sense to eat foods that need minimal to no processing to make them palatable (sp?) Grains just don't fit into that category, for instance. I totally agree with using a blender as opposed to a juicer, because as Bill said, your body needs the fiber and juices over-work the pancreas which can lead to diseases such as diabetes, pancreatic cancer and many, many more. For an informative video on our food industry, watch Food Inc. (available on Netflix streaming).

@QueenSemiramis "Do you need an expert to tell you that an apple is healthier than a pre-packaged nutritionally devoid snack?"
No, I'm just saying the claims of the Paleo diet are overblown.

@halleyscomet What exactly does a ‘healthy, balanced diet’ consist of? There’s more than one way…etc, etc. What works for you may not work for everyone.
-
@halleyscomet What’s happening right now with cancer, diabetes and heart disease is sure to be more of a problem than a paleo diet. I’ve had much more success with Paleo than I’ve had with any low cal diet (or low carb diet)…that’s because, for *ME*, the high fat content acts as an appetite suppressant. I’m always hungry if I eat processed carbs, and calorie counting goes out of the window when I‘m over my limit but still hungry (pain in the ass anyway!).
-
@halleyscomet I’m sure there are tons of sources stating that less processed foods are healthier, but I’m not supplying them because last I checked, I’m not getting paid for this back and forth exchange. But do you really need an expert to tell you that raw fruits & veggies are healthy? Do you need an expert to tell you that an apple is healthier than a pre-packaged nutritionally devoid snack? I glanced over the raw deal write-up, and they just seem to be reacting what they see an attack

I highly recommend anyone thinking of starting a diet like this one listen to the Skeptoid Podcast episodes: "Natural Hygiene" and "Raw Food - Raw Deal?"

@QueenSemiramis "damage/ loss of nutrients that results from cooking"
Such as?
The idea that cooking food reasonably destroys nutrient content is an old canard. What nutritive content in vegetables is actually harmed by sauteing or steaming them?
A healthy, balanced, varied diet where you eat only as many calories as you burn is going to do more for you than gimmicks like not cooking vegetables.
-
@QueenSemiramis "the ‘experts’ are always telling us"
And what "experts" are these?
-
@halleyscomet ...due to the damage/ loss of nutrients that results from cooking & over processing. Raw is great, but it takes a lot of food prep time…that’s why I like Paleo/ Primal. Minimal processing of food & lots of fat! People buy these books because they want to be healthy, but don’t know where to start. The old way obviously isn’t working. What do you suggest?
sup!
