Anyone can still go to the courthouse with his name and birth date to see his criminal record. The rest of the public should be aware that if you are ever fingerprinted for a job or a visa to leave the country, the Department of Justice will still disclose your record. The conviction and the arrest record is never erased, sealed, or destroyed, but a notation is simply added to the record showing that the conviction has been dismissed pursuant to the California Penal Code Section 1203.4
