This is definitely reverse sneezing and it seems to be mostly caused by excitement or stress.
It can however also be a sign of a collapsed trachea.
Monitor your dog when he does it and have a look at his/her gums. If they get very pale, your dog is lacking oxygen and needs a visit to the vet... Also, if it keeps on worsening, you should see your vet.
However, if it passes and happens around a certain event, try and minimise the chances of it happening and calm your dog.
Please pick your dog up when she does this. It is caused by stress. These dogs are more sensitive than you think. Rub her ears until she calms down. Anything can bring it on, even drinking. It is not reverse sneezing. It is the diaphragm tensing up and making it hard to breathe. She needs calming down when this happens.
my chihuahua does it too i was scared when i heard and yet its true sounds like a goose. wish that someone will teach us how to stop that attitude to our chihuahua
thanks for posting this. my chihuahua does this and i was thinking it was maybe a collapsed trachea until i heard about reverse sneezing. this is definately what she does. very scary, but i'm glad to know that it's not as serious as it seems. poor babies. i hope it's not as scary for them as it is for us.

I wish someone would have told me about this before. I rushed my dog to the vet thinking that she was choking.
